At AVK Valves Southern Africa, we take immense pride in upskilling our international customers with cutting-edge solutions. Our commitment to excellence was recently showcased when we provided support and training to the Malawi Water Board 30-09-2024
Three years ago, the Malawi Water Board made a significant investment by purchasing 56 Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs), specialty Control Valves 869 with low flow / high flow and day / night four sequence setting on a seven-day programmable setup, through an EPC from AVK Valves Southern Africa. Recently after installation, client faced some challenges with the PRVs due to their unique complexity. This issue went unnoticed due failure from a third-party communication the urgency of on-site that will be required to assist.
Once the installation began, and the message finally was communicated to AVK SA, the Control Valve Specialist immediately , travelled to Malawi to provide much-needed valve operator training and possible trouble shooting solutions.

Day 1: In-Class Training
The first day was dedicated to in-class training. The AVK team provided comprehensive instruction on the correct installation, maintenance, and various troubleshooting scenarios on the Control Valve 869. This foundational knowledge was crucial for the Malawi Water Board team to understand the technical operational aspects of the valves.
Day 2: Onsite Training, Maintenance, and Commissioning
The following day, the training shifted to the field. The AVK team conducted on-site training, including maintenance procedures and the commissioning (setting) of the Control Valve 869. Hands-on training ensures that the Malawi Water Board team can now confidently apply what they have learned in real-world scenarios.
Fault Finding and Troubleshooting
After completing the training, the AVK team accompanied the client to specific chambers where setting the controls on the valves proved challenging had been reported. The Team spent two days conducting intensive fault-finding exercises on both day and night setting scenarios on the control valves. These exercises revealed that impurities in the line had caused sensitive control items and strainers to become blocked, which hindered the valves' correct functionality and effectiveness
Long-Term Solutions
The AVK team provided a step-by-step guide on how to identify and solve common problems, such as ensuring the water flows correctly through the system and control circuitry. The Malawi Water Board team is now equipped to troubleshoot issues independently which saves time and costs reducing the cost of ownership exponentially.
Client Satisfaction
The challenges that the client faced were all very solvable and even concerns raised whist there could be resolved in the session. The AVK team offered practical solutions to ensure that the client would better equipped and more knowledgeable.
